Strengthen school mental health culture

Communities begin in different places.

These offerings are designed to be used intentionally, guided by context, priorities, and what will be most useful over time.

Language and Communication Audits

A Foundation for school Mental Health Culture Change

Everyday language shapes how mental health is understood and experienced across a community. These Language and Communication Audits help schools assess how mental health in schools is framed across policy, practice, and community messaging.

Grounded in the #SameHere Global 5-in-5 model, these audits support shared, inclusive language and provide clear insights that help communities strengthen learning experiences, programs, and communication in coherent ways.

This service is most helpful when…

— Mental health efforts feel well-intentioned but disconnected

—Leaders want greater consistency across messaging and practice

— Schools are preparing for broader initiatives or community engagement

Small shifts in words create big shifts in culture.

Instead of...

1-in-5 people have mental health issues
Suicide is a choice. “Committed suicide” or “took their life”
“Stop the Stigma” or any action word before stigma.

Try saying...

5-in-5 of us experience mental health
“Died by suicide” or “lost their life to suicide”
We all face challenges in our lives that impact our mental health.

Working Alongside Communities

Schools, districts, and mission-aligned organizations engage in partnership over time to align language, learning, and culture to create a lasting, meaningful impact. Built by design, this work can include audit-informed recommendations, leadership and professional learning experiences, implementation support, and the design of intergenerational learning environments tailored to each community’s needs and readiness.

The focus is on guiding and facilitating rather than prescribing. Through collaborative processes, communities clarify priorities, explore options, and bring the right people together. Built by design, this approach strengthens school mental health culture by fostering shared responsibility and aligning support across roles, generations, and systems.

HOW PROGRAMS FIT IN

Programs are recommended thoughtfully; not automatically. Decisions are guided by audit findings, community goals, and readiness, with the aim of supporting implementation and long-term culture change rather than adding complexity or initiative fatigue.

When appropriate, select #SameHere Global programs may be recommended to support deeper learning and shared practice. These offerings are designed to normalize mental health, build shared language, and strengthen school mental health culture by equipping leaders, educators, students, and staff with practical, sustainable tools. Options range from facilitated learning experiences and train-the-trainer models to STARR-based courses and tools that help school communities assess, track, and respond to mental health needs. Each is adapted to fit the context of a school, district, organization, or community.
